Linux Maximum Length Of A Host Name

Posted: 30 Apr 2008 06:09 PM CDT

While browsing Linux kernel source code I came across POSIX (Portable Operating System Interface) variable called _POSIX_HOST_NAME_MAX . It defines the maximum length of a host name (not including the terminating null) as returned from the gethostname function. This variable sets the limit to the number of characters in a hostname under Linux.
$ grep '_POSIX_HOST_NAME_MAX' /usr/include/bits/posix1_lim.h
Output:

#define _POSIX_HOST_NAME_MAX    255

You can change limit and recompile the kernel to get bigger hostname.

Lighttpd Install and Configure AwStats Software Log Analyzer

Posted: 29 Apr 2008 12:08 AM CDT

AWStats is a free powerful tool that generates advanced web, streaming, ftp or mail server statistics, graphically. This log analyzer works as a CGI or from command line and shows you all possible information your log contains, in few graphical web pages. It uses a partial information file to be able to process large log files, often and quickly. It can analyze log files from all major server tools like Apache log files (NCSA combined/XLF/ELF log format or common/CLF log format), WebStar, IIS (W3C log format) and a lot of other web, proxy, wap, streaming servers, mail servers and some ftp servers.

You can easily configure awstats under Lighttpd web server.

Step # 1: Install awstats

Visit project web site to grab latest stable version.
# cd /tmp
# wget http://jaist.dl.sourceforge.net/sourceforge/awstats/awstats-6.7-1.noarch.rpm
# rpm -ivh awstats-6.7-1.noarch.rpm

Important Configuration Files

  • /usr/local/awstats/wwwroot/ - Default installtion directory
  • /etc/awstats/ - Configuration file for all your domains
  • /usr/local/awstats/wwwroot/cgi-bin/ : Main program directory
  • /var/log/lighttpd/domain.com/access.log : Web server access log file
  • /home/lighttpd/domain.com/http/ : Web root for your domain
  • /home/lighttpd/domain.com/stats/awstats/ : Directory to store awstats data files. You need to create this directory.

Step # 2: Configure lighttpd

Open lighttpd.conf file and configure perl cgi access (see tutorial for more info):
# vi lighttpd.conf
Append following configuration directive:

alias.url = (                 "/awstatsclasses" => "/usr/local/awstats/wwwroot/classes/",                 "/awstatscss" => "/usr/local/awstats/wwwroot/css/",                 "/awstatsicons" => "/usr/local/awstats/wwwroot/icon/",                 "/awstats/" => "/usr/local/awstats/wwwroot/cgi-bin/",                 "/icon/" => "/usr/local/awstats/wwwroot/icon/"               ) # provide awstats cgi-bin access $HTTP["url"] =~ "/awstats/" {       cgi.assign = ( ".pl" => "/usr/bin/perl" ) }

Save and close the file. Restart lighttpd:
# /etc/init.d/lighttpd restart

Step # 3: Configure domain

Make a copy of default configuration file awstats.model.conf as awstats.domain.com.conf:
# cd /etc/awstats
# cp awstats.model.conf awstats.theos.in.conf

Open config file:
# vi awstats.theos.in.conf
Make sure you set values as follows:
LogFile="/var/log/lighttpd/theos.in/access.log"
LogFormat=1
SiteDomain="theos.in"
DirData="/home/lighttpd/theos.in/stats/awstats"

Where,

  • LogFile : Defines the web, ftp or mail server log file to analyze. A full path to your log file /var/log/lighttpd/theos.in/access.log
  • LogFormat : Use Apache / Lighttpd combined log format
  • DirData : When AWStats updates its statistics, it stores results of its analysis in files (AWStats database). All those files are written in the directory defined by the "DirData" parameter. Set this value to the directory where you want AWStats to save its database and working files into.

Save and close the file. Create dataDir:
# mkdir -p /home/lighttpd/theos.in/stats/awstats
# chown lighttpd:lighttpd /home/lighttpd/theos.in/stats/awstats

Step 4: Generate stats

Type the following command at a shell prompt:
/usr/local/awstats/wwwroot/cgi-bin/awstats.pl -update -config=domain.com
If your domain name is theos.in, enter:
# /usr/local/awstats/wwwroot/cgi-bin/awstats.pl -update -config=theos.in
Sample output:

Create/Update database for config "/etc/awstats/awstats.theos.in.conf" by AWStats version 6.7 (build 1.892) From data in log file "/var/log/lighttpd/theos.in/access.log"... Phase 1 : First bypass old records, searching new record... Direct access after last parsed record (after line 50894) Jumped lines in file: 50894 Found 50894 already parsed records. Parsed lines in file: 47047 Found 0 dropped records, Found 0 corrupted records, Found 0 old records, Found 47047 new qualified records.

Step 5: View stats

Fire a web browser and type url:
http://server-ip/awstats/awstats.pl?config=domain.com
http://server-ip/awstats/awstats.pl?config=theos.in
http://theos.in/awstats/awstats.pl?config=theos.in

(Fig.01: Awstats for theos.in domain - click to enlarge)

Password protect your stats

Use mod_auth to setup a secure password protected area under Lighttpd.

Automatically update stats

Simply create a shell script to update all domains - /etc/cron.daily/01awstats via a cron job:
# vi /etc/cron.daily/01awstats
Append code as follows:

#!/bin/bash # path to cgi-bin AWS=/usr/local/awstats/wwwroot/cgi-bin/awstats.pl    # append your domain DOMAINS="theos.in cyberciti.biz nixcraft.com cricketnow.in vivekgite.com"   # loop through all domains for d in ${DOMAINS} do    ${AWS} -update -config=${d} done

Save and close the file. Test your script:
# chmod +x /etc/cron.daily/01awstats
# /etc/cron.daily/01awstats

Ubuntu Linux Usability Testing with Girlfriend

Posted: 28 Apr 2008 11:16 PM CDT

Finally someone is doing Ubuntu Linux usability testing with a girlfriend. The new user was given a couple of common tasks over a default installation of Ubuntu. I hope, the Linux distributions can learn a lot from this article and improve Linux user experience on a desktop computer. From the post:

Erin's knowledge of computers is limited to word processors, spreadsheets, Photoshop and a reasonable amount of browsing on the Web. Fairly standard stuff for a university philosophy student. All I did to the system (before leaving Erin at the log-in screen) was to install it and create a user account for her. She had no problems logging in, and loved the stylised heron background. Then I gave her one by one the tasks I'd set her. I didnรข€™t give her any help at all.

Hans Reiser Guilty of First Degree Murder

Posted: 28 Apr 2008 10:52 PM CDT

Hans was deeply involved in Linux kernel development with his widespread ReiserFS journaling file system and its successor Reiser4. Reiser's estranged wife, Nina Reiser, disappeared on September 3, 2006; Reiser was convicted of her murder on April 28, 2008:

Jurors found Linux programmer Hans Reiser guilty of first degree murder on Monday, concluding he killed his estranged wife in 2006. The verdict followed a nearly six-month trial and nearly three days of deliberation

The 44-year-old developer of the ReiserFS filesystem, sat quietly as a clerk for Alameda County Superior Court Judge Larry Goodman read the verdict. Reiser faces a mandatory sentence of 25 years to life in prison. Wearing the same dark coat he's worn for months, the defendant was immediately removed from the courtroom by one of four bailiffs watching over the courtroom. He asked out loud if he could speak with his attorney.

In a murder case with no body, no crime scene, no reliable eyewitness and virtually no physical evidence, the prosecution began the trial last November with a daunting task ahead.

How To Install Ubuntu Linux Under Windows Vista / XP With Wubi

Posted: 26 Apr 2008 10:20 AM CDT

You can install latest Ubuntu Linux 8.04 under Windows Vista / XP without creating a new parition with a new tool called Wubi. It is a Ubuntu installer for Windows users that will bring you into the Linux world with a single click. Wubi allows you to install and uninstall Ubuntu easily. This blog post covers basic installation:

With the latest release of the popular Linux-based operating system, Ubuntu Hardy Heron, the installation process just got easier for Windows users who wish to try out an alternative to Vista or XP. Even .NET developers who are looking out on trying the Mono project (the .NET platform for Linux-based operating systems) can benefit from it. All this is possible thanks to a little Windows utility called Wubi, which is an installer for Ubuntu.

mod_compress: Lighttpd Gzip Compression To Improve Download and Browsing Speed

Posted: 26 Apr 2008 09:18 AM CDT

Gzip is the most popular and effective compression method. Most modern web browser supports and accepts compressed data transfer. By gziping response time can reduced by 60-70% as compare to normal web page. The end result is faster web site experience for both dial up (they're not dead yet - I've dial up account for backup purpose) and boradband user. I've already written about speeding up Apache 2.x web access or downloads with mod_deflate.

mod_comress for Lighttpd 1.4.xx

Lighttpd 1.4.xx supports gzip compression using mod_compress. This module can reduces the network load and can improve the overall throughput of the webserver. All major http-clients support compression by announcing it in the Accept-Encoding header as follows:

Accept-Encoding: gzip, deflate

If lighttpd sees this header in the request, it can compress the response using one of the methods listed by the client. The web server notifies the web client of this via the Content-Encoding header in the response:

Content-Encoding: gzip

This is used to negotiate the most suitable compression method. Lighttpd support deflate, gzip and bzip2.

Configure mod_compress

Open your lighttpd.conf file:
# vi /etc/lighttpd/lighttpd.conf
Append mod_compress to server.modules directive:
server.modules += ( "mod_compress" )
Setup compress.cache-dir to stored all cached file:
compress.cache-dir = "/tmp/lighttpdcompress/"
Finally, define mimetypes to get compressed. Following will allow to compress javascript, plain text files, css file,xml file etc:

compress.filetype           = ("text/plain","text/css", "text/xml", "text/javascript" )

Save and close the file. Create /tmp/lighttpdcompress/ file:
# mkdir -p /tmp/lighttpdcompress/
# chown lighttpd:lighttpd /tmp/lighttpdcompress/

Restart lighttpd:
# /etc/init.d/lighttpd restart

How do I enable mod_compress per virtual host?

Use conditional $HTTP host directive, for example turn on compression for theos.in:

$HTTP["host"] =~ "theos\.in" {   compress.cache-dir = "/var/www/cache/theos.in/" }

PHP dynamic compression

Open php.in file:
# vi /etc/php.ini
To compress dynamic content with PHP please enable following two directives:
zlib.output_compression = On
zlib.output_handler = On

Save and close the file. Restart lighttpd:
# service lighttpd restart

Linux / UNIX RT Project Management Ticketing System Tutorial

Posted: 25 Apr 2008 05:15 PM CDT

Internally we use RT (enterprise-grade ticketing system) for customer support and it is one of the best GPL software around. It enables a group of people to intelligently and efficiently manage tasks, issues, and requests submitted by a community of users. RT manages key tasks such as the identification, prioritization, assignment, resolution and notification required by enterprise-critical applications including project management, help desk, NOC ticketing, CRM and software development.

Linux magazine has published a nice article about RT installation and configuration:

Managing bugs and help requests isn't easy, but it's crucial for effective project management. Using the wrong tool can set your project back to the dark ages, but the right tool can help your team excel. With that in mind, let's look at Request Tracker, an enterprise-grade (and free software) ticketing system written in Perl.

A ticketing system is a piece of software in which every bug, request, or problem is entered as a 'ticket,' which can then be tracked. It can be allocated to someone to fix, given a priority, placed in a queue (to separate out different types of bug or request), commented on, replied to, and finally closed when resolved. The system can also send progress updates and reminders to the initial requester and to other people involved with the ticket. RT handles all of these functions and more.

Using Color Effectively At a Shell Prompt / Console

Posted: 25 Apr 2008 04:14 PM CDT

Pixelbeat has published a nice article about setting up colorful console under Linux / UNIX. From the article:

I find it very productive working in a terminal environment, as it's efficient and flexible to deal with processes and data, especially text, and especially on remote machines.

Now terminals have advanced in capability over time, with some form of "xterm" being the usual terminal of choice. Therefore one should not restrict programs to their usual monochrome defaults, as colour can be used to greatly ease the parsing of text by humans. We have dedicated sensors and portions of the brain specifically for colour, so we should not ignore them.

Helmer: A Linux Commodity Computing cluster in a IKEA Helmer Cabinet

Posted: 24 Apr 2008 06:41 PM CDT

Rendering is the process of generating an image from a model, by means of computer programs. POV-Ray is one of such free software for rendering images. This article explains how to build home Linux render cluster using commodity computing technique:

3D computer rendering are very CPU intensive and the best way so speed up slow render problems, are usually to distribute them on to more computers. Render farms are usually very large, expensive and run using ALLOT of energy. I wanted to build something that could be put in my home, not make too much noise and run using very little energy... and be dirt cheep, big problem? :) no computer stuff cost almost nothing these days, it just a matter of finding fun stuff to play with.

Ksplice: Patch The Linux Kernel Without Rebooting System

Posted: 24 Apr 2008 06:12 PM CDT

You may be aware that after kernel upgrade and kernel security patching you need to reboot Linux box. Now, there is a new patch called - Ksplice. It provides rebootless Linux kernel security update. It is available under GPL 2 and has been tested on Linux kernel versions from 2.6.8 to the recently released 2.6.25 and on several Linux distributions including Debian, Ubuntu, Red Hat Enterprise Linux and Gentoo Linux.

Ksplice allows system administrators to apply security patches to the Linux kernel without having to reboot. Ksplice takes as input a source code change in unified diff format and the kernel source code to be patched, and it applies the patch to the corresponding running kernel. The running kernel does not need to have been prepared in advance in any way.

To be fully automatic, Ksplice's design is limited to patches that do not introduce semantic changes to data structures, but most Linux kernel security patches don't make these kinds of changes. An evaluation against Linux kernel security patches from May 2005 to December 2007 finds that Ksplice can automatically apply 84% of the 50 significant kernel vulnerabilities from this interval.

Ksplice has been implemented for Linux on the x86-32 and x86-64 architectures.

Bill Gates Says - We Disagree with GPL

Posted: 24 Apr 2008 05:59 PM CDT

Bill gates is spreading misinformation about GPL. From the article:

After one scientist asked if Gates would consider open source uses in health research, the man who built his $280 billion company on the power of intellectual property bristled.

"There's free software and then thereรข€™s open source," he suggested, noting that Microsoft gives away its software in developing countries. With open source software, on the other hand, "there is this thing called the GPL, which we disagree with."

Open source, he said, creates a license "so that nobody can ever improve the software," he claimed, bemoaning the squandered opportunity for jobs and business. (Yes, Linux fans, we're aware of how distorted this definition is.) He went back to the analogy of pharmaceuticals: "I think if you invent drugs, you should be able to charge for them," he said, adding with a shrug: "That may seem radical."

Sun Looks To Open Source The Rest of Java

Posted: 23 Apr 2008 09:07 PM CDT

Sun is planning to remove the last reaming restrictions on Java to make it completely open source.

By freeing these up, Java can be fully open-source and thus be packaged more easily with Linux distributions. In conjunction with this activity, Sun is talking with Linux distributors, including OpenSuse, Ubuntu and Fedora to have them offer an updated version of OpenJDK, which constitutes the open-source Java platform. Sun plans to offer the updated OpenJDK soon and clear the last few encumbrances later.

Posted: 23 Apr 2008 07:48 PM CDT

Forensics is the art and science of applying computer science to aid the legal process. Linux journal has published a nice introduction to Forensics:

A break-in can happen to any system administrator. Find out how to use Autopsy and Sleuthkit to hit the ground running on your first forensics project.

There are certain aspects to system administration that you can learn only from experience. Computer forensics (among other things the ability to piece together clues from a system to determine how an intruder broke in) can take years or even decades to master. If you have never conducted a forensics analysis on a computer, you might not even know exactly where to start. In this guide, I cover how to use the set of forensics tools in Sleuthkit with its Web front end, Autopsy, to organize your first forensics case.

One of the most common scenarios in which you might want to use forensics tools on a system is the case of a break-in. If your system has been compromised, you must figure out how the attacker broke in so you can patch that security hole. Before you do anything, you need to make an important decisionรข€"do you plan to involve law enforcement and prosecute the attacker?

Endangered Wear just released another limited edition tee. There are only 50 of these bird tees. It might just be me, but these birds look a little possessed. So uhh, maybe 50 is more than enough?

Anyways, I’m always all for simple silhouette designs. And remember with birds, less is more.

Phat Rags on its own pleasure again, make some tee shirt with funny version of old time favorite saying “It’s my duty”. Here is Phat Rags’ jokes following this tee:

I never joined the military because my duty is to stay here and please that booty. I’m a lover not a fighter! The classic funny saying finally on a T-shirt.

Buy this tee for $15.99 — although it could get lots cheaper when you buy three or more of other Phat Rags’ tee altogether in one order.

Portions of the sale of this tee will be used to support NYC artists. So you’ll look good and be helping those starving artists at the same time.

Giving Up Passwords for Chocolates Offered By Good Looking Women

Posted: 21 Apr 2008 06:29 PM CDT

Unbelievable!

People are too trusting, especially when there's chocolate on the line. A survey out today by the organizers of the tech-security conference Infosecurity Europe found that 21% of 576 London office workers stopped on the street were willing to share their computer passwords with a good looking woman holding a clipboard. People were offered a chocolate bar in exchange for the information. More than half of the people surveyed said they used the same password for everything.

Women far more likely to give away their passwords to total strangers than their male counterparts, with 45% of women versus 10% of men prepared to give away their password, to strangers masquerading as market researches with the lure of a chocolate bar as an incentive for filling in the survey. The survey was actually part of a social engineering exercise to raise awareness about information security. The survey was conducted outside Liverpool Street Station in the City of London.

Sure, I will give up a fake password for a chocolate ;)

Open Source Software Saved Customers $60 Billion - It Is A Great Time To Be An Open Source Company

Posted: 21 Apr 2008 03:41 PM CDT

A new study report - free open source software is costing vendors $60 billion per annum. According to Jim Johnson, Chairman, The Standish Group International, Boston, MA :

Open Source software is raising havoc throughout the software market. It is the ultimate in disruptive technology, and while to it is only 6% of estimated trillion dollars IT budgeted annually, it represents a real loss of $60 billion in annual revenues to software companies.

This is good news as you and me just saved $60 Billion. I'm now wondering how this revenue is calculated? Anyway, FOSS software is for all of us and it is a win win situation - screw the proprietary software ;)

What do you think?

Ubuntu 'reaping Linux dividend'

Posted: 21 Apr 2008 12:17 PM CDT

Red Hat and Novell decided not to challenge Microsoft on desktop PCs. However, Canonical Ltd is getting ready to release a new version of Ubuntu on Thursday. According to Mark Shuttleworth:

The public perception of open source software is changing fast. French police force was currently deploying 50,000 Ubuntu-powered machines, while Spanish education authorities were rolling out 500,000 desktops with the OS. Hardy Heron also has improved support for multimedia, including photo editing, music sharing and video playback. It's a favorite version of Linux both for specialists and one that specialists would recommend to a cousin, aunt or uncle who want to have a stable desktop internet experience. There are other versions of Linux that are better for a particular purpose - but Ubuntu strives to be a general platform that is secure and self-maintained.

Flickrfs: Access / Backup Flickr Photos From Linux

Posted: 20 Apr 2008 01:50 AM CDT

Flickr is well know image hosting website, web services and an online community platform for sharing stuff.

FlickerFs

Flickrfs is a virtual filesystem which mounts on your linux machine like any other partition. Once mounted, it retrieves information about your photos hosted on your flickr account, and shows them as files. You can now easily copy photos from your local machine to this mount, and it will automatically upload them to your flickr account. Similary, you can copy the files from your mount to your local machine, and it will download your images from flickr.

Manish has all the information about installing FlickerFS under Linux and Ubuntu computer.

Desktop Flickr Organizer

Desktop Flickr Organizer (DFO) is a flickr photos organizer right on your Linux desktop. helps you store and manage a local backup of your Flickr photos. It also lets you tag, organize, comment on and manage those photos from your desktop.

Open Source Programming Contest - Can You Code 24 Hours Non-Stop?

Posted: 19 Apr 2008 12:40 PM CDT

Hackontest is a 24 hour programming competition between various open source software projects. The event takes place at OpenExpo on September 24/25, 2008 in Zurich, Switzerland. The contest is sponsored by Google. From the contest page:

The participating teams may win cash prizes of USD 1000, 2500 and 5000. Next to fun and competition, the elected open source developers receive a free trip to Zurich, Switzerland, including accommodation and meals from September 23 - 26, 2008 up to USD 1000 each person.

The idea of the Hackontest event is three-fold:

  • First of all, hackers (=smart programmers) of open source projects meet physically during 24h and enhance their software with a certain feature. Thus their Free Software project gets improved in terms of code and the developers have a fun time meeting in one place and competing for some nice prizes.
  • Second, users of open source software get the opportunity to file features they've missed in their favorite applications and operating systems. Therefore, during the selection process everyone who registers may file feature requests and others may vote and comment on them.
  • And third, visitors of the Hackontest event get the chance to see the commitment and team work with which open source software is created. Like this, the public becomes more aware of the creative processes and the power of collaborative effort by international open source communities.

The Seven Habits Of Highly Effective Linux User

Posted: 19 Apr 2008 10:38 AM CDT

This blog post documents couple of good habits to become a highly effective Linux user:

Switching to Linux can be very daunting, most seasoned Linux users experienced that first hand. After all, at some point they were also "noobs". However, the Linux community has excelled in making the switch for beginners as easy as possible by providing guides, howtos, tweaks, and general advocacy articles. When I first made the switch 3 years ago, I found the community welcoming me with open hands on forums, IRC channels, and E-mail, I was surprised how helpful these penguins were!

Tutorial: Linux MPI Parallel Clusters Programming

Posted: 18 Apr 2008 08:29 AM CDT

The MPI (Message Passing Interface) is a language-independent communications protocol used to program parallel computers. It allows many computers to communicate with one another. It is used in computer clusters.

The OpenMP (Open Multi-Processing) is an application programming interface (API) that supports multi-platform shared memory multiprocessing programming in C/C++ and Fortran on many architectures, including Unix / Linux and Microsoft Windows platforms. It consists of a set of compiler directives, library routines, and environment variables that influence run-time behavior.

This tutorial explains how to obtain, build, and use an MPI stack for Linux machines. This tutorial will take you from "hello world" to parallel matrix multiplication in a matter of minutes. The exercise takes slightly more than 30 minutes and allows one to develop and run MPI codes on a multi-core server or on a HPC cluster.

OpenMP has several strong points: it is a very simple system to use and it is widely available in compilers for most major platforms. There are however, other methods to express parallelism in your code. On distributed parallel systems, like Linux clusters, the Message Passing Interface (MPI) is widely used. MPI is not a programming language, but rather a standard library that is used to send messages between multiple processes. These processes can be located on the same system (a single multi-core SMP system) or on a collection of distributed servers. Unlike OpenMP, the distributed nature of MPI allows it to work on almost any parallel environment.

Now Novell Says Linux Consumer Desktop Too Tough

Posted: 18 Apr 2008 07:28 AM CDT

Finally, both Red Hat and Novell is in total agreement - both of them thinks making money with Linux desktop is hard. According to Ron Hovsepian, CEO, Novell India Engineering:

The market for the desktop for the next three to five years is mainly enterprise-related.

As usual, I recommend Ubuntu Linux for both consumer Desktop and Laptop user:

  • Ubuntu will always be free of charge, including enterprise releases and security updates.
  • Ubuntu comes with full commercial support from Canonical and hundreds of companies around the world.
  • Ubuntu includes the very best translations and accessibility infrastructure that the free software community has to offer.
  • Ubuntu CDs contain only free software applications; we encourage you to use free and open source software, improve it and pass it on.

Understanding Real Time Linux Architecture ( RTOS )

Posted: 18 Apr 2008 07:11 AM CDT

Linux can be used a real time operating system ( RTOS ) for thermostats, household appliance controllers, mobile telephones, industrial robots, spacecraft, industrial control and scientific research equipment.

Linux is not only a perfect platform for experimentation and characterization of real-time algorithms, you can also find real time in Linux today in the standard off-the-shelf 2.6 kernel. You can get soft real-time performance from the standard kernel or, with a little more work (kernel patch), you can build hard real-time applications.

This article explores some of the Linux architectures that support real-time characteristics and discusses what it really means to be a real-time architecture. Several solutions endow Linux with real-time capabilities, and in this article author examine the thin-kernel (or micro-kernel) approach, the nano-kernel approach, and the resource-kernel approach. Finally, author describe the real-time capabilities in the standard 2.6 kernel and show you how to enable and use them.

Red Hat Skips Linux Desktop - As It Is Not A Money Maker

Posted: 17 Apr 2008 01:52 PM CDT

Red Hat has no plans to create a traditional Linux desktop software for the end user market, but will continue to place its bets on a desktop for commercial markets as it is not making money from them. From the press release:

An explanation: as a public, for-profit company, Red Hat must create products and technologies with an eye on the bottom line, and with desktops this is much harder to do than with servers. The desktop market suffers from having one dominant vendor, and some people still perceive that todayรข€™s Linux desktops simply donรข€™t provide a practical alternative. Of course, a growing number of technically savvy users and companies have discovered that todayรข€™s Linux desktop is indeed a practical alternative. Nevertheless, building a sustainable business around the Linux desktop is tough, and history is littered with example efforts that have either failed outright, are stalled or are run as charities. But thereรข€™s good news too. Technical developments that have become available over the past year or two are accelerating the spread of the Linux Desktop.

Now I'm just wondering where this leaves Fedora Desktop in the long term? Ubuntu Linux seems to doing well and it is going to lead Linux Desktop market along with other distros. Linux is also getting installed on mobile and many tiny devices.

Ubuntu Linux Getting Ready For Average User

Posted: 17 Apr 2008 12:25 PM CDT

The latest beta of the popular Ubuntu Linux distribution offers updated features and good support for new Linux user. It appears that Ubuntu is getting ready for masses. From the article:

If there is a single complaint that is laid at the feet of Linux time and time again, it's that the operating system is too complicated and arcane for casual computer users to tolerate. You can't ask newbies to install device drivers or recompile the kernel, naysayers argue.

Of course, many of those criticisms date back to the bad old days, but Ubuntu, the user-friendly distribution sponsored by Mark Shuttleworth's Canonical Ltd., has made a mission out of dispelling such complaints entirely.

The 20 Most Earth-ish T-shirts on the Web

Posted: 17 Apr 2008 01:32 PM CDT

Thanks to Mr. Gore, I have never been so anxious to celebrate Earth Day next week (April, 22th). There are indeed lots of enviro-talk these days, from everyday’s tips on saving the planet to global actions to embrace better approach on how we treat our earth. That’s why green-planet lovers’ blog like Tree Hugger, Tree Hugging Family, Daily Tomorrow and Green Daily are the must read these days.

I believe, for the upcoming Earth Day this is the best to come up with my favorite earth and environmental theme T-shirts which I saw, most of them, popping out recently. Check them out (and don’t forget to pick your favorite!)

#1 - The inconvenient shirt, “This Is Why Im Hot” at BustedTees (Men/Women - Link)

Competition-based online tee store, Allmightys, has built itself not only as passionate T-shirt community but also who concern with environmental issue. From printed winning designs collection I found four T-shirts that inspired by “green-earth” theme… here they are:

#10 “Trash Roots” by Yonil - Link

#14 - This may not really be T-shirt about Earth, but the fresh green and natural theme makes it on to the list. From Linty Fresh  (Men/Women - Link)
9 -14 - Linty Fresh T-shirt Most Fantastic Things

#15 - Imaginary Foundation’s “One” T-shirt represents one people, one planet, one future (Men only - Link)

9 - 18 - tippitapi tee shirt
#19 - Apparently, the new ideas have to be part of ways to solve our environmental problem. Design by Humans winning designer, Sirbeauris, gives some thought along with his “A New Idea” tee:

Energy consumption can be reduced by 10-15 per cent through the introduction of simple housekeeping measures, without changing any equipment. Further reduction of energy consumption can be achieved through the modification of equipment. Finally, the introduction of new processes and technologies can improve energy efficiency by 50 per cent or more. This design is to promote awareness of global energy conservation.

and here’s the tee (Men/Women - Link)
9 - 19 - design by humans - light bleu t-shirt
# 20 - Finally, Another Design by Humans’ winning design takes on earth pollution problem, My Lungs by (username) Aliadotony (Men/Women- Link)
9 - 1920 - design by humans - pollution tee shirt

That’s all for the list… now go and buy, I mean, save the earth!

Brits Andrew Hung and Benjamin John Power formed the group in 2004 with the goal of creating pain-inducing noise music, but soon became curious about mixing in prettier sounds, and adding structure and melody to their brutal tracks. "Street Horrrsing" the 8.6 Pitchfor approved album is the culmination of such a combination. After taking SXSW by storm Fuck Buttons have headed out on the road with Caribou. Please stop by for this very special instore at the earlier time of 5pm. You will not be disappointed. Make sure to catch them at The Loft with Caribou later that evening.

http://www.myspace.com/brothersandsistersmusic
Brothers and Sisters is a band out of time. Led by real-life siblings Will and Lily Courtney, their music entirely lacks the calculated cool of contemporary indie rock and seems totally oblivious to the cynical machinations of the music business. In an indie world currently hell-bent on exhuming the still-warm corpse of post-punk, Brothers and Sisters reach back to a sunnier age, when idioms as disparate as polished West Coast pop, rock and roll choogle, AM radio balladry and classic country could still rub up against each other at the same hazy Topanga canyon party. Make sure to catch them the night before at Lola's in Ft. Worth.

M2S2 SUNDAY APRIL 20TH...ONLY $5 WITH A GOOD RECORDS RECEIPT
***********************************************
The inaugural Mokah Music Summit and Showcase (M2S2) co-hosted by Life in Deep Ellum and the Carter Albrecht Music Foundation has been moved to Sunday, April 20, from 3:00-9:00 p.m. Originally scheduled for April 19, M2S2 officials decided to move its event after discovering the magnitude of a date conflict with "National Record Store Day" celebrations at nearby Good Records on Lower Greenville. The event takes place at Life in Deep Ellum's multi-faceted facility located at 2803 Taylor Street in Deep Ellum.

The move has been endorsed by participants in both the summit and showcase and required only slight adjustments to the actual structure of the event. Frozen Fire Films (www.frozenfirefilms.com), a tenant of the Life in Deep Ellum facility, provided a financial donation earlier in the week to help facilitate some costs of the date change.

"Good Records is an important resource for local music followers and supporters in Dallas and M2S2 has been created as a way to build community among the local music scene," said Mike Biggs, operations director of Life in Deep Ellum and M2S2 event director. "Despite many efforts to communicate our intentions well in advance, we unfortunately discovered too late the April 19 plans for an all-day local music event at Good Records featuring much of the same community. This created a situation where Dallas music fans and supporters would have to choose between two great events and numerous local bands instead of celebrating the spirit behind both events.

"After listening to feedback from the music community, we felt the best way to show our support for the Dallas music scene was to do everything possible to move our event to the 20th. Chris Penn (manager of Good Records) has given us a booth at Good Records to sell tickets for M2S2 and discuss Life in Deep Ellum and the Carter Albrecht Music Foundation and the commitment to the local music scene of both non-profit organizations. In the end, I think it makes both events stronger."

The showcase portion of M2S2 will no longer include unsigned bands competing for prizes alongside feature band sets, but instead showcase a variety of artists in both the Live At Mokah concert space and Mokah Coffee Bar lounge space. Committed bands and artists now include: Bridges & Blinking Lights, Smile Smile, Airline, Jayson Bales Band, Miles From Nowhere, Chris Holt (The Slack not confirmed yet), Salim Nourallah & The Noise, Blue Petal, Rahim Quazi, Something at the Wheel, Flat People, Ramonalisas, Annie Benjamin and Taylor Davis. The entire event will be MC'd by local comedian and music scene supporter, Dave Little. Full schedule and band updates will be posted all next week at www.m2s2community.com as they develop.

The summit portion of M2S2 featuring music industry leaders from all parts of the Dallas music scene will now occur during 15-minute set breaks between venue acts and encourage interaction among music fans and officials. Cindy Chaffin of The Fine Line (www.finelinelive.com) will moderate the discussions and provide webcast coverage on her site of the entire day's events and performances. More details can be found at www.m2s2community.com and www.finelinelive.com early next week.

Among the discussion points will be the Carter Albrecht Award and how to best honor a recipient annually at M2S2. The award symbolizes the passion and talent of the late Carter Albrecht and his commitment to furthering Dallas as a destination city for music and a viable place for the artist creating the music.

Will Call tickets are $7 and available online at www.m2s2community.com or www.liveatmokah.com and can also be purchased at the Good Records event on the 19th. An additional $3 fee (normally $5) will be added to the price for those wishing to bring limited amounts of beer or wine (see venue beverage policy at www.liveatmokah.com in the Blog section).

In addition to the event on April 20, Life in Deep Ellum and the Carter Albrecht Music Foundation will host an art fundraiser on Thursday, May 1, for both organizations titled "Music in the Life of Carter" and featuring music-themed works of art. The event is open to the public and more information can be found at www.m2s2community.com/art.

Some of the pieces of art for sale at the May 1 event will be on display at M2S2.

Life in Deep Ellum (www.lifeindeepellum.com), founded by Executive Director Tony Fundaro in 2006, is a non-profit cultural center built for the artistic, social, economic and spiritual benefit of Deep Ellum and its residents, supporters and visitors. By virtue of Deep Ellum's historical influence on the city of Dallas and its culture, the center, by extension, serves the greater Metroplex and growth of culture in Dallas. The facility features Mokah Coffee Bar (open M-F from 7-10am, Sundays from 9:00-11:15am and for all events); the Mokah Art Gallery (spacious art gallery featuring new exhibits every six weeks); the Live At Mokah concert space (1,000 capacity) with high quality sound and lighting systems; Deep Ellum Kids which hosts an after-school mentoring program for at-risk kids; and The Gathering which meets on Sunday mornings as a spiritual community serving Deep Ellum.

The Carter Albrecht Music Foundation (www.carteralbrechtmusicfoundation.org) is dedicated to the growth and betterment of music in Dallas by offering assistance in education, developing skills and improving the quality of life of its musicians. Strategies include: provide support and funds to local musicians and groups to realize their musical potential, quality instruments to individuals and groups to improve the quality of their recordings and performances and scholarships to talented and deserving youth to help them achieve their dreams; coordinate with other programs to support the quality of life for musicians for personal health and financial guidance; utilize the contacts and goodwill of musicians who worked with and knew Carter to help all musicians meet their musical goals; and work with city and county agencies to foster a positive environment for musicians and the venues in which they perform.

• We've invited Club Dada, which hosts an Open Mic with Jenn Nabb on Sundays, to host an afternoon Open Mic to include staggered sets in the Mokah Coffee Bar lounge beginning the last five minutes of each venue set and extend through the 15-minute break when the summit discussions are taking place in the venue. Everyone is encouraged to head over to Club Dada at the end of M2S2 for the continuation of Open Mic with Jenn Nabb and 10% of all bar sales at Club Dada that evening will be donated to the Carter Albrecht Music Foundation/Life in Deep Ellum organizations.
• We have a few surprises in store that followers of the Dallas music scene don't want to miss! (Just so you don't start guessing down the wrong path -- it doesn't involve any special guests or performers, but we think "buzz worthy" news nonetheless.)
• A limited preview of pieces for the May 1 "MUSIC in the LIFE of cARTer" art exhibit and fundraiser to be held in the Mokah Art Gallery will be on display.

APRIL 15th NEW RELEASES
***********************************************
Air-Moon Safari: 10th Anniversary Edition
10th Anniversary Special Edition includes the original amazing-in-its-own-right album plus a disc of rarities, key remixes (Beck, Moog Cookbook), and radio sessions as well as a DVD of the hour-long Mike Mills documentary Eating, Sleeping, Waiting And Playing. Enclosed in a hardcover book package.

American Princes-Other Peoples
Pixies-like pop band from Little Rock, Arkansas reveal their love of Tears For Fears and Tom Petty.

Joseph Arthur-Crazy Rain CDEP
Second in a series of four EPs is near techno in sound, wonderfully melodic and chaotic.

The Autumns-Fake Noise from a Box of Toys
Three years after the release of their critically acclaimed self-titled album, The Autumns are back with their fourth full-length. "Mixing slivery guitar patterns with raging feedback and FX pedals, The Autumns successfully harness shoegazing's euphoric tendencies with Snow Patrol/Keane anthemics. Searing drama rock." (4 Stars) -- Uncut

Christopher Bissonnette-In Between Words
In Between Words is a collection of works that continue Christopher Bissonnette's explorations into orchestral and spatial acoustics. Cultivating an increasing interest in field recording and found sounds, Bissonnette has woven spatial ambience into these new compositions, while still concentrating on moments of near empty space between 'instruments.'

Black Francis (Frank Black)-Svn Fngrs
Mini-album -- remarkably written, recorded and mixed in six days -- takes its title from the Irish legend of Cu Chulainn, who was believed to have seven fingers and toes. The musical territory covered is typically dark and frenetic.

A.A. Bondy-American Hearts
Solo debut from Scott Bondy (aka A.A. Bondy), former Verbena main-man, gets some proper distribution. American Hearts is dark and sardonic -- but it's not as claustrophobic, tortured or troubled as you might expect. The songs are influenced by an amalgam of folk and blues, filtered through the mind of someone who knows what makes a great rock song breathe.

Borko-Celebrating Life CD/LP
Debut album from Icelandic artist Björn Kristiansson reflects a life in music full of experiences. How does a punch in the belly sound? Kristiansson has written a song about it called "Spoonstabber," where you'll hear an elegiac Tetris, encapsulated by delaying beats, tumbling samples, guitars, trumpets and addictive melodies.

The Brian Jonestown Massacre-My Bloody Underground
Recorded in Liverpool and Reykjavik, My Bloody Underground is BJM's thirteenth full-length. From the opening track and throughout the album's 75 minutes, you'll be taken on a trip that contains stirring visions of sunny Californian communes all the way to NYC's darkest corners. Produced in part by Mark Gardener (Ride), My Bloody Underground features breathtaking moments of neo-shoegazing bliss, raw psychedelia, trippy avant-garde madness and wobbly Morricone-esque unease. This is one of Anton Newcombe's finest hours -- resplendent with so many emotive moments and addictive narcotic melodies, you will crave repeated listens.

Can - Future Days
Can - Monster Movie
A couple more newly remastered titles fresh off the boat.

The Clash-Live: Revolution Rock DVD
As seen on PBS! 22 tracks from 1977-1982 -- including footage from Bonds International Casino, Fridays, The Tomorrow Show, US Festival, Shea Stadium and much more.

Coil-The Ape Of Naples/The New Backwards 4xLP Box Set
Limited to 1500 copies, each 180-gram record is packaged in its own jacket and then housed in a deluxe box. The first three records make up The Ape Of Naples with each B-side containing a custom etching. The fourth double-sided record, The New Backwards, contains tracks reworked from an aborted mid-'90s release for Trent Reznor's Nothing label. This material is unavailable elsewhere. A poster is also included.

Does It Offend You, Yeah?-You Have No Idea What You're Getting Yourself Into
Debut album from Reading electro-indie rockers. Taking their influences from groups such as Justice, Daft Punk, Muse and Death From Above 1979, this raucous record embodies the spirit of nu-rave. The daft name of the band was taken from a line in the BBC-TV show The Office.

Erasure - Live At The Royal Albert Hall DVD (Mute)

20-song concert recorded September 2007. Includes a behind-the-scenes documentary.

Forgetting Sarah Marshall Soundtrack
Includes tracks by Cake, Black Francis, Belle And Sebastian and more.

The Gossip-Live In Liverpool CD+DVD
Contains footage from their July 9, 2007 show in Liverpool, England. While the CD and DVD feature slightly different track listings, both formats include the band's covers of Wham!'s "Careless Whisper" and Aaliyah's "Are You That Somebody?" The DVD was filmed by director Lance Bangs (Pavement, Sonic Youth, Kanye West, R.E.M., Mike Watt).

J Dilla-Jay Love Japan
The long awaited Jay Love Japan CD from the dearly departed J Dilla -- a nine track, mostly instrumental set originally slated for the Japanese market -- and one of Dilla's last projects. This is Dilla in a mostly uptempo vibe, with soulful strings and vocal samples and blunt, snapping beats.

The Jealous Girlfriends-The Jealous Girlfriends
Brooklyn four-piece, one of the best bands in New York according to the Times, float through soft and erotic clouds of guitar and keyboards that can turn grungy and turbulent.

The Kooks-Konk
Sophomore release from the UK garage rockers continues to exhibit their freewheeling ways. Bonus CDEP with two unreleased tracks free with purchase while supplies last.

James McMurtry-Just Us Kids
Self-produced effort from the acclaimed singer/songwriter includes guest appearances from Ian McLagan, Pat McDonald, John Dee Graham and C.C. Adcock.

M83-Saturdays=Youth
For M83's chief stargazer Anthony Gonzalez, his youth is something he looks back upon with affection, something that has become the defining theme of his enchanting new album. Recorded with producer/engineer Ken Thomas (Psychic TV, Sigur Ros, The Sugarcubes, Suede, Clinic, etc.) and Ewan Pearson (Tracey Thorn, The Rapture, Ladytron), Saturdays=Youth delivers the rich sonic textures for which M83 is well known -- this time with a more focused approach to song structure, form and production -- sounding like a lost electro-pop classic from 1983.

Mojo - May 2008 (#174)
Neil Young cover story plus features on The Specials, Portishead and more. Free CD features fifteen classic punk and ska tracks.

Ours-Mercy...
Jimmy Gnecco's long-awaited follow-up to 2002's Precious. Produced by Rick Rubin.

Phantom Planet-Raise The Dead
Phantom Planet's fourth full-length further mixes the band's '60s pop influence with their distinct modern slant. Includes the first single "Do The Panic."

The Plastic Constellations-We Appreciate You
Minneapolis art-punks add a welcome dose of melodicism to their latest effort.

Tristan Prettyman-Hello...
Tristan's second album is an appealing portrait of the freewheeling San Diego native as she narrates stories about her life, loves and heartbreaks in her seductive, smoky alto.

Josh Ritter-Josh Ritter
Josh Ritter-Live At The 9:30 Club
A pair of rare Josh Ritter CDs. The first his eponymous debut from 1999, previously only available via his website and at gigs. The second is a live recording from last October, originally broadcast by NPR.

Roommate-We Were Enchanted

DJ Shadow & Cut Chemist-Hard Sell At The Hollywood Bowl DVD
First, there was Freeze. Then came Product Placement. Then came more turntables, more cameras, and, of course, more records! Two hours of music and mayhem recorded June 24, 2007, when DJ Shadow and Cut Chemist turned the world famous Hollywood Bowl into a giant jukebox. Blazing through musical genres with dexterity and wit, they are accompanied by live visuals and animations, eight turntables, and an unhealthy quantity of 45s. Definitively documented using seventeen cameras (including midi-controlled robot cams). Lotsa extras, too. Very cool.

Sally Shapiro-Remix Romance Vol. 1
This is a remix album of her '07 stellar debut, "Disco Romance". It features remixes by an eclectic group of international artists including Juan MacLean, Skateboard and Jon Brooks among others.

Thrice-The Alchemy Index Vols. III & IV: Air & Earth 2xCD
The conclusion of their musical exploration of the elements. Unless they discover some new ones.

Whiskeytown-Strangers Almanac 2xLP
First time on vinyl for this nugget from Ryan Adams' first band. Side Four contains five previously unreleased live-in-the-studio tracks.

Jordan Zevon-Insides Out
Debut album from Warren Zevon's son is a rock/pop mix inspired by XTC, Elvis Costello and New Radicals.

APRIL 8th NEW RELEASES
***********************************************
Auburn Lull-Begin Civil Twilight
Michigan's Auburn Lull play a brand of dreamy, high-minded space-rock that shares with contemporaries like Mahogany, and betrays a fondness for Galaxie 500, Spiritualized, and the ambient albums of Brian Eno. On BEGIN CIVIL TWILIGHT, Auburn Lull guide delicate pop melodies through a swirling haze of guitars and ambient noise to beautiful effect ("Light Through the Canopy" and "Civil Twilight" are two excellent cases in point). The tunes are subordinated to the delicious sonic wash, which is exactly how Auburn Lull wants it. Fans of first wave space-rock have reason to rejoice at this revival.

Eric Avery-Help Wanted (Jane's Addiction)
The debut solo album from the co-founder/bassist of Jane's Addiction is dark and deep -- dark in its intimations of disillusionment, isolation and alienation, and deep in its layered electronic textures and intermittent unsettling effects. Yet amid the anguish both personal and political, the artist somehow remains hopeful. Features guest contributions from Shirley Manson (Garbage), Taylor Hawkins (Foo Fighters) and Flea (Red Hot Chili Peppers). File under: Jane's Addiction.

Boredoms:-Super Roots 9
Their first live release was recorded in Japan on Christmas Eve 2004 with a 24-piece choir. Packaged in a deluxe custom-made LP-style mini-gatefold jacket with a 40-page bound booklet featuring music scores and notations.

The Breeders-Mountain Battles CD/LP
By turns goofy, groovy, melancholy, strung-out, catchy, atmospheric, and at times impossibly lovely, Mountain Battles underlines the fact that Kim Deal is a songwriter and musician of rare intuition. Her songs move from offhand charm to emotional truth with casual grace, balancing scuffed-up noise against fraught silence -- timeless structures against strange new shapes. Deluxe 28-page booklet with both formats. Bonus MP3 download with the vinyl.

Broken Spindles (The Faint)-Document Number One
This is bassist Joel Petersen of The Faint's electronica side-project. Comes in an individually hand-numbered and hand-painted cover. Limited to 2100 copies. File under: The Faint.

Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds-Dig, Lazaru, Dig!!!
Last seen under the gleeful guise of 2007's Grinderman, a no-nonsense rock & roll excuse to head down to the basement and shout, Nick Cave now returns to his full time Bad Seeds co-conspirators. "Grinderman was deliberately spare and the concepts were pretty simple," explains Cave. "With Dig!!! Lazarus Dig!!! we allowed ourselves to get expansive." It picks up where Grinderman left off, filled with Stooge-ified electric guitar, driving beats, and Cave's literate, seductive, and firmly tongue-in-cheek lyrics. Deluxe CD packaging includes a 55-page lyric book. Available for audition in one of our listening stations.

Cavity-Laid Insignificant
While the climate of any Cavity album could be considered hostile, "Laid Insignificant" has proven to be the most unhinged and ferocious occupant in the stable in the ten years subsequent to its original release. While retaining the foundational elements of Sabbathian swagger upon which their reputation was built, this album proved Cavity had more to offer in terms of compositional prowess. With added emphasis on faster tempos, layered chordal discordance, and an overall air of frantic desperation, this may stand if not as Cavity's best album, then certainly as their most furious and scathing.

Clinic-Do It!
Their fifth studio album is a warped Technicolor celebration of cut-up pop music going from melody to acid psychosis to placid acoustic moments, usually in the same song. CD now, vinyl May 6.

Cloud Cult: Feel Good Ghosts (Tea-Partying Through Tornadoes)
"...Another intensely personal set of expansive songs that blend elements of orchestral pop, folk-rock, psychedelia, electronics, and more. At times, it recalls The Flaming Lips, Arcade Fire and even Modest Mouse." -- KEXP

Cut Copy-In Ghost Colours
"Cut Copy's fusion of indie rock and trancey electro-pop will absolutely make the band Modular's most listened-to and respected outfit yet." -- XLR8R

Dark Meat-Universal Indians (Expanded Edition)
Athens' Dark Meat, a seventeen-piece (incorporating ex-members of Neutral Milk Hotel and Olivia Tremor Control) hippie rock fest featuring double drums, boundless guitars, massive horns, strings, and ensemble voices, has been giving earth-shaking performances all over the South for the last three years. Imagine The Rolling Stones pumped through Phil Spector's Wall Of Sound. This expanded edition includes three bonus tracks. CD now, vinyl April 22.

Dead Child-Attack CD/LP
A supreme metal masterwork, Attack grew out of pure frustration -- the band was sick of the vulnerable, pompous music of recent years. It's all serious -- full of thundering drums and guitarist David Pajo's (Slint/Papa M) epic, anthemic riffs. Bonus MP3 download with the vinyl.

Marié Digby-Unfold
Debut from up-and-coming Los Angeles singer/songwriter/YouTube sensation who is rapidly gaining popularity with her singles "Umbrella," "Say It Again" and "Stupid For You."

The Drift-Memory Drawings CD/LP
Though the music on this release at first seems familiar, there's a depth to both the performance and production that feels new. The direct-to-analog tape mix is used as another instrument to help shape each song -- channeling the mythos of late-60s jazz and late-70s dub classics. They've also expanded their influences with shades of afrobeat and disco-soul.

The Duke Spirit-Neptune CD/LP
Latest from the female-fronted UK quintet. Vinyl includes an MP3 download. Available for audition in one of our listening stations.

Envy-Transfovista DVD
Withstanding time and traversing the full spectrum of experimental punk, Tokyo-based Envy have earned their following as much as their following have earned the ability to appreciate the band's uncompromising sound. Collected here are 17 live performances from over a dozen years of the band's experiments with noise, guitars, and hardcore.

The Explorers Club-Do You Love Me 7"
Teaser single for their highly anticipated debut due this summer. Sunny psychedelic pop replete with lush arrangements and cushy four-part harmonies inspired by The Beach Boys, The Association, Phil Spector, The Left Banke and The Zombies.

Farmers Market-Surfin' USSR
Latest from Norwegian/Bulgarian avant-jazz/folk/bluegrass/jokester ensemble sees release via Mike Patton's Ipecac label.

Fireroom-Broken Music
Trio featuring Ken Vandermark, Lasse Marhaug and Paal Nilssen-Love. File under: Ken Vandermark.

Foals - Antidotes CD/LP
Debut from Oxford, England's five-piece dance-rock band -- completing the circuit between the minimalism of American composer Steve Reich and guitars that sound like insects. Driving percussion high in the mix, guitars played above the twelfth fret, no chords, and splashes of synth color all come together like the schematics for a piece of precision engineering. Includes two bonus tracks exclusive to the US release. The vinyl adds a 7" 45 and an MP3 download.

Diamanda Galas-Guilty Guilty Guilty
A collection of tragic and homicidal love songs, most of which were recorded at Diamanda's Valentines Day Massacre at the Knitting Factory in New York City on February 14, 2006. Featured on the album are her much acclaimed reinterpretations of Ralph Stanley's reaper song "O Death," O. V. Wright's "8 Men, 4 Women," "Long Black Veil" (made popular by Johnny Cash), her signature rendition of "Autumn Leaves," and "Heaven Have Mercy" (made famous by Edith Piaf).

The Green Owl Comp: A Benefit For Energy Action CD+DVD
A two-disc CD+DVD featuring previously unreleased tracks from an eclectic group of artists who've shared their music in order to support the good works of the Energy Action Coalition. The EAC is made up of over 40 organizations from the US and Canada, founded and led by youth to help support and strengthen the clean energy movement in North America. They're currently working on the Campus Climate Challenge, which has committed over 450 college campuses to go climate neutral. They're also responsible for Power Shift, the largest youth gathering and lobby day on climate change in the history of the US. All profits from this release will support EAC's efforts. Artists include The Appletrees, Feist, Muse, Of Montreal, Pete Yorn, Bloc Party, Deerhoof, Satori and many more. The added DVD includes videos, bonus tracks and interviews.

Hornet Leg-Blood Trilogy 7"
Blood Trilogy condenses the full-length concept album into three potent tracks of pure, unsentimental, raw energy. Expertly engineered by Calvin Johnson at the Dub Narcotic Studios, these recordings are an immediate grab to the throat but leave a haunting grip to the ear.

Imaginational Anthem Volume 3
This is the third in a series of compilations devoted to acoustic guitar mavericks past and present. It features extraordinary young talents such as Cian Nugent, Ben Reynolds and Shawn David McMillen alongside past heroes such as George Stavis and Richard Crandell.

Robert Kelly-Just The Tip CD+DVD
Comedian Robert Kelly has issues. From an abiding fear of commitment to an unhealthy addiction to food and an unusual take on sex, the Boston native offers a hysterical no-holds-barred tour of his world. This CD is almost an hour of his best material, recorded in his hometown club to hundreds of adoring fans. The DVD consists of his Comedy Central Presents special as well as an exclusive full-length documentary featuring Dane Cook, Colin Quinn, Jim Norton, and others.

Eliot Lipp-The Outside
"We always knew Eliot Lipp was capable of exploring many styles and musical tricks in a single track, but this latest full-length has more to get excited about than his last two albums put together, blending heartwarming and sometimes heartbreaking melodies with futuristic synth stabs and tightly arranged, abstract beats covered in feedback." -- XLR8R

Living Legends-The Gathering CDEP
Led by a socially conscious anthem for peace, this L.A. via San Fran hip-hop collective (members include Murs and Aesop) are doing their civic duty, while not forgetting to move the crowd with heavy bangers, catchy hooks and fire-spitting verses -- celebrating all of their true roots. New full-length due later this year.

Robert A.A. Low and Rose Lazar-Gyromancy Book + 3"
A 4" x 6" soft cover, bound book with a 3" CD of music that's to be experienced with the artwork inside. Limited to 1000 copies worldwide. Lowe was a member of 90 Day Men, and over the past few years has cemented his place in the realm of expansive, psychedelic music with his work in Lichens. Rose Lazar runs her own hand made goods company called The Great Lakes Goods.

Man Man-Rabbit Hats
Philadelphia's Man Man have found the perfect berth for their gypsy-swamp-rock-carny-soul-Viking-vaudeville-punk collective. This record matches the fierce energy of their non-stop live shows, which utilize a variety of more traditional instruments (accordion, Moog, xylophone) along with such noisemakers as soup pots, shoes, squeaky toys, and a fire extinguisher. With a following that sells out clubs coast to coast and with a kinetic stage presence, Man Man are a musical contagion waiting to happen.

Meat Beat Manifesto-Autoimmune
Further explorations in the electronica/dubstep field.

Colin Meloy-Colin Meloy Sings Live! (Decemberists)
A fourteen-song set documenting The Decemberists' lead singer/songwriter's 2006 solo tour. Of the thirteen Meloy/Decemberists originals, two are previously unreleased compositions, "Dracula's Daughter" and "Wonder." Along the way, he mixes in snippets of songs from The Smiths, Fleetwood Mac, Pink Floyd and R.E.M. The collection also captures amusing between-song banter.

Microphones-The Glow Pt. 2 DELUXE EDITION CD/LP
Reissued and remastered with additional songs and material. Deluxe triple vinyl is limited to 2000 copies.

Peter Moren-The Last Tycoon CD/LP (Peter, Bjorn, & John)
The solo debut from the vocalist of Peter Bjorn And John. Bonus MP3 download with the vinyl.

The Mountain Goats-Tallahassee LP+MP3
The Mountain Goats-We Shall All Be Healed LP+MP3
Repressed on heavy-duty vinyl -- bonus MP3 download included with each title.

Neva Dinova-You May Already Be Dreaming CD/LP
Neva Dinova have continually evolved their melancholic sound, making masterful use of counterbalanced melodies and poetic lyricism. Their third full-length is a lush, largely electric affair, rich with rural textures. 180-gram vinyl includes MP3 download.

New Bloods-The Secret Of Life CD/LP
The first thing you notice about New Bloods' The Secret Life is the violin (more fiddle than violin) but this isn't country or Americana. It's lean, engaging, minimalist punk. There's a Raincoats vibe, a little Intima, a touch of ESG and Unwound -- but with dub, soul, and afrobeat influences it becomes a whole new animal.

Nine Inch Nails-Ghost I-IV 2xCD/4xLP
36 instrumental pieces -- nearly two hours of music -- from Trent Reznor. Soundtracks for daydreams.

No Age-Eraser 7"
This compelling mélange of punk abandon and lilting shoegaze distortion should whet the appetite for their proper debut release. The three B-sides are covers of The Nerves ("Hangin' On The Telephone"), Nate Denver, and Urinals songs.

No Kids-Come Into My House LP

Jim Noir-Jim Noir
Jim's eponymous second album is one of the most expansive pop records you'll hear this year. His music has always been a melange of different styles and influences, and this album sees him delving more into his electronic side and going further with melody and vocals than before. "Noir's elaborately multi-tracked recordings make his gentle bitching irresistible. He writes killer songs." -- Blender

Old Haunts-Poisonous Times
This Olympia, WA band find themselves nestled deep in the roots of the Pacific Northwest punk scene with such predecessors as The Wipers, Sonics and Dead Moon. "Jerky rhythms, garage riffs, sludgy low end, and dark, often defiant lyrics." -- Pitchfork

Pearl Jam-Pearl Jam vs Ames Bros Book
Beautiful hard-cover bound collection of Pearl Jam concert posters from 1995-2007. 264 pages.

Jay Reatard-See/Saw 7"
The first seven-inch in Jay Reatard's singles series for Matador -- recorded at Shattered Studios this past January.

Steve Reich-Daniel Variations
Modern classical piece is a tribute to slain Wall Street Journal reporter Daniel Pearl.

Ike Reilly - Poison The Hit Parade CD+DVD (Rock Ridge Music)

A collection of songs taken from demos from his debut Salesmen And Racists, and alternate versions of songs from Sparkle In The Finish and We Belong To The Staggering Evening, as well as the previously unreleased title track, and the poignant cancer anthem, "Dragonflies". Bonus DVD includes three videos. "...Incredibly infectious melodies and hook-laden sing-along choruses." -- All Music

Rollins Band-Life Time
Their first studio album -- recorded at the end of 1987 in London and produced by Ian MacKaye. Reissue includes four bonus live tracks. "Thanks for checking this out." -- Henry Rollins

School Of Seven Bells-Silent Grips 7"
Comprised of ex-Secret Machines guitarist Benjamin Curtis and ex-On! Air! Library! sisters Alejandra and Claudia Deheza, School Of Seven Bells intricately infuse a psych-rock aesthetic that freely weaves itself in an ethereal of lush harmonics, richly textured beats and ripping riffs. This limited edition 7" features a cover of Wire's "Used To" on the B-side. Bonus MP3 download with the vinyl.

Shout Out Louds-Impossible CDEP
A fantastic reminder of the beauty and grandeur of Shout Out Loud's brand of Swedish pop. Enhanced CD includes the video of "Impossible" directed by the band's bassist, Ted Malmros (who won a Swedish Grammy for Best Video for Peter Bjorn And John's "Young Folks").

Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin-Pershing CD/LP
Latest album is full of quirky chord changes, massive hooks and addictive melodies. Recommended for fans of The Shins. 180-gram vinyl includes MP3 download.

Spoon-Don't You Evah CDEP
Features remixes by Ted Leo, Diplo, and Matthew Dear -- enhanced with the "Don't You Evah" video.

Richard Swift-Richard Swift As Onasis CD/LP
This double EP finds Richard Swift tackling yet another era in music -- the '50s. His sweet melodic croon is cast aside in favor of channeling the inner gritty rock & roll of Link Wray and Screamin' Jay Hawkins. Music to dance drunk to. Bonus MP3 download with the vinyl.

Tapes N' Tapes-Walk It Off CD/LP
The Minneapolis-based band's first record since 2006's widely lauded The Loon. Tapes 'N Tapes' signature sound is distinctly their own concoction: shaky vocals, bursts of lo-fi guitars and haunting keyboard refrains. Jittery rock that's found the sweet spot where experimental song structure meets melodic accessibility. Initial copies come with a bonus white-label promo 7".

Thee Oh Sees-The Master's Bedroom Is Worth Spending a Night In
Weaves multi-instrumentalist John Dwyer's (Coachwhips) signature AM radio howl with the catchiest of driving tunes, gorgeous harmonies, heightened fidelity, thick spring-reverb bombast and mighty drums. CD now, vinyl next month. "Tunes only a soulless vampire couldn't enjoy." -- Audio Lunchbox

Torche-Meanderthal
You could call this a pure sludge bulldozer. Or you could call it the latest and greatest stoner pop/thunder rock classic from mastermind Steve Brooks and his fellow doom-meisters.

Sarabeth Tucek-Sarabeth Tucek LP
Singer/songwriter Sarabeth Tucek is from New York. She can be heard duetting with Bill Callahan on Smog's "Supper" and collaborating with Anton Newcombe on Brian Jonestown Massacre's We Are The Radio, for which she co-wrote a song with Anton Newcombe. Her eponymous debut album, co-produced by Ethan Johns (Kings Of Leon/Ryan Adams) and Luther Russell (Richmond Fontaine/Fernando), is available now on 180-gram vinyl.

Was (Not Was)-Boo!
The darlings of the avant disco set and avatars of the absurd have emerged from the abyss of the recording industry with a new album. It's been almost twenty years since their last salvos of surrealistic soul and Jurassic dance mixes delighted and terrified nightclub crawlers and pop maniacs with the hits "Walk The Dinosaur" and "Spy In The House Of Love." Special guests this time out include Wayne Kramer, Booker T. Jones and Kris Kristofferson.

Wye Oak-If Children
The duo of Jenn Wasner and Andy Stack present an exuberant and assured debut seamlessly combining elements of noise, folk, and shoegaze to create a style all their own.

ktrace - FreeBSD / Mac OS X Process Tracing and Reporting Tool

Posted: 16 Apr 2008 05:31 PM CDT

Under Linux you can use strace or valgrind tool for reporting and finding a bug. However, under *BSD / Mac OS X you need to use ktrace as replacement for strace tool.

kreace runs on the following platforms:
=> FreeBSD
=> OpenBSD
=> Mac OS X
=> NetBSD

The ktrace utility enables kernel trace logging for the specified processes. Kernel trace data is logged to the file ktrace.out. The kernel operations that are traced include system calls, namei translations, sig nal processing, and I/O. Once tracing is enabled on a process, trace data will be logged until either the process exits or the trace point is cleared. A traced process can generate enormous amounts of log data quickly; It is strongly suggested that users memorize how to disable tracing before attempting to trace a process.

To trace all kernel operations for process id # 2546, enter:
$ ktrace -p 2546
To disable all tracing of process # 2546, enter:
$ ktrace -cp 2546
To disable tracing on all user-owned processes, and, if executed by root, all processes in the system:
# ktrace -C
Attach to process id # 123 and log trace records to myapp.dbg.log instead of ktrace.out.
$ ktrace -p 123 -f myapp.dbg.log
To enable tracing of I/O on process # 123
$ ktrace -ti -p 123
The -t option is very useful to trace various kernel trace points, one per letter. The following table equates the letters with the trace points:

  • c : trace system calls
  • n : trace namei translations
  • i : trace I/O
  • s : trace signal processing
  • u : userland traces
  • w : context switches
  • + : trace the default set of trace points - c, n, i, s, u

Run the command called myapp and track only system calls, enter:
$ ktrace -tc ./myapp
Please note that the output of ktrace is not as informative as strace, but it does help to solve many problems.

truss: trace system calls

FreeBSD has another tool called truss. It traces the system calls called by the specified process or program. Output is to the specified output file, or standard error by default.
Attach to an already-running process # 123, enter
$ truss -p 123
Follow the system calls used myapp
$ truss ./myapp -d /tmp -f 120
Same as above, but put the output into a file called /tmp/myapp.dbg
$ truss -o /tmp/truss.out ./myapp -d /tmp -f 120

strace under FreeBSD

You can install strace under FreeBSD and other *BSD like oses.

andLinux - Run Windows and Linux Without Virtualization

Posted: 16 Apr 2008 04:35 PM CDT

If you cannot get rid of Windows due to application software compatibility issues, try andLinux.

Linux does everything that many users want it to, but some people have tasks that require Windows applications. You can dual-boot both operating systems, or run Windows in a virtualized environment on Linux. Alas, virtualization makes the guest OS almost useless for processor- and RAM-intensive tasks like editing videos and playing games. Now, a Ubuntu-based distro called andLinux takes cooperation with Windows to a whole new level.

Sun touts big plans for OpenSolaris as first release nears

Posted: 16 Apr 2008 04:22 PM CDT

Sun is planning to release OpenSolaris soon with better package management, GNU userland tools and fast release cycle just like Fedora or Ubuntu Linux. Sun's Ian Murdock gave a presentation about OpenSolaris at LugRadio Live this past weekend. He explained how OpenSolaris reflects Sun's changing platform strategy and also discussed some of the technical attributes that differentiate OpenSolaris from Linux.

The first steps towards this goal have been realized in the latest developer preview release of OpenSolaris which offers a complete GNOME desktop environment as well as a package system and an installer. The final release will take place in May and the distribution will adhere to a six-month release cycle, just like Fedora and Ubuntu.

Few suggestion...

  • Get Gnome desktop instead of Sun branded Java desktop. Please keep your corporate color away from my desktop.
  • Currently OpenSolaris does not support virtual console
  • Get complete package collection; I want something like FreeBSD ports or GNU/Debian APT repos.
  • Get pulse-audio or may be ALSA sound support

FreeBSD Mount /proc File System Command

Posted: 16 Apr 2008 06:07 PM CDT

Q. Few commands under FreeBSD depends upon procfs (process file system). FreeBSD does not mount it by default. How do I mount /proc (procfs) from a shell prompt? A. Yes few commands will not work, as procfs has to be mounted. The process file system, or procfs, implements a view of the system process table [...]

valgrind - Linux Tools For Debugging And Profiling Programs ( bug reporting tool )

Posted: 15 Apr 2008 07:21 PM CDT

Few days back I wrote about strace tool for reporting and finding bug in program. Today I'm going to talk about another interesting tool called valgrind.

Valgrind is a flexible program for debugging and profiling Linux executables. It consists of a core, which provides a synthetic CPU in software, and a series of "tools", each of which is a debugging or profiling tool. The architecture is modular, so that new tools can be created easily and without disturbing the existing structure. There are Valgrind tools that can automatically detect many memory management and threading bugs, and profile your programs in detail. You can also use Valgrind to build new tools.

The Valgrind distribution currently includes five production-quality tools:

  • a memory error detector
  • a thread error detector
  • a cache and branch-prediction profiler
  • a call-graph generating cache profiler
  • a heap profiler

It also includes two experimental tools:

  • a data race detector
  • an instant memory leak detector.

It runs on the following platforms:

  • X86/Linux
  • AMD64/Linux
  • PPC32/Linux
  • PPC64/Linux

How do I use valgrind?

Valgrind is typically run as follows:
$ valgrind command-name arg1 arg2 argN
$ valgrind program args
$ valgrind ./myapp -d /tmp -f 120

You can select tool using the --tool=TOOLName option. For example use memcheck which is a fine-grained memory checker. To generate trace back for command called myapp, enter:
$ valgrind --tool=memcheck -v --log-file=myapp.dbg --num-callers=8 ./myapp -d /tmp -f 120
Where,

  • --tool=memcheck : Run the Valgrind tool called memcheck
  • -v : Verbose output
  • --log-file=myapp.dbg : Specifies that Valgrind should send all of its messages to the specified file.
  • --num-callers=8 : By default, Valgrind shows twelve levels of function call names to help you identify program locations. You can change that number with this option. This can help in determining the programรข€™s location in deeply-nested call chains.

The --leak-check option turns on the detailed memory leak detector:
$ valgrind --tool=memcheck -v --log-file=myapp.dbg --num-callers=8 --leak-check=yes ./myapp -d /tmp -f 120

mod_secdownload - Lighttpd Create Secure Download Area with Unique Download URL

Posted: 15 Apr 2008 06:35 PM CDT

Lighttpd handle secured download mechanisms using mod_secdownload modules. It uses the lighttpd webserver and the internal HTTP authentication using secrete password. This module use the concept called authenticated URL for a specified time. Each unique url remains valid for a specified time.

Your application has to generate a token and a timestamp which are checked by the webserver before it allows the file to be downloaded by the webserver.

URL Format

The generated URL has to have the format:

<uri-prefix>/<token>/<timestamp-in-hex>/<rel-path>

Which looks like
http://theos.in/dl/6262df3adba2bc85846e05440fcc3895/4804f986/file.zip

is an MD5 of

  • a secret string (user supplied)
  • <rel-path> (starts with /)
  • <timestamp-in-hex>

Understanding filesystem layout

  • Domain name: theos.in
  • Webroot : /home/lighttpd/theos.in/http/
  • Download location : /home/lighttpd/download-area/ (you must upload all download files here)
  • Download url : http://theos.in/dl/<token>/<timestamp-in-hex>/file.zip

Make sure /home/lighttpd/download-area/ directory exists:
# mkdir -p /home/lighttpd/download-area/
# chown lighttpd:lighttpd /home/lighttpd/download-area/

Configuration

Open lighttpd.conf file:
# vi /etc/lighttpd/lighttpd.conf
Append following configuration:

secdownload.secret          = "MySecretSecurePassword" secdownload.document-root   = "/home/lighttpd/download-area/" secdownload.uri-prefix      = "/dl/" secdownload.timeout         = 3600

Where.

  • secdownload.secret : Your password; it must not be shared with anyone else
  • secdownload.document-root : Download file system location, must be outside domain webroot / documentroot
  • secdownload.uri-prefix : url prefix such as /dl/ or /download/
  • secdownload.timeout : Set timeout for each unique url in seconds

Save and close the file. Restart lighttpd:
# service lighttpd restart

Sample PHP Download Script

<?php $secret = "MySecretSecurePassword"; $uri_prefix = "/dl/";   # set filename $f = "/file.zip";   # set current timestamp $t = time(); $t_hex = sprintf("%08x", $t); $m = md5($secret.$f.$t_hex); # finally generate link and display back on screen printf('<a href="%s%s/%s%s" class="broken_link">%s</a>',$uri_prefix, $m, $t_hex, $f, $f); ?>

410 Gone HTTP Error Code

After timeout; unique url will be gone and end user will get 410 http status code. It indicates that the resource requested is no longer available and will not be available again. So if anybody deeplinked or hotlinked your content it will be gone after timeout.

The missing five-minute Linux manual for morons

Posted: 15 Apr 2008 04:32 PM CDT

From the article:

Stob It is time to wake up and smell the elephant in the room. Vista is struggling to achieve escape velocity. Microsoft finds itself the butt an international joke, but does not seem able to get a grip. The issue of choice of platform is once more up for grabs.
Of course there is an alternative; a popular computing platform whose design attracts universal admiration. But although we all look forward to literally punching in the numbers, the Wii does not yet quite hack it (use of a dread phrase coming up) 'in the enterprise'.
So, for the time being, I'm afraid we are all back on re-evaluation-of-Linux duty. Never mind. I've already done the spadework. Let me lead you through a few simple steps to a full-on Open Source experience.

Windows Vista Designed To ANNOY Users

I just read an article on ZDnet about how Windows Vista’s user account control “feature” was designed to annoy users. Now, this is not all negative because it has been forcing software makers to make more secure software.

Anyways, technology lesson aside. Here a couple vista inspired tees I found.

Humor: Firefox Logo in Deep Space

Posted: 12 Apr 2008 11:35 AM CDT

I, for one, would like to welcome our new Mozilla Firefox overload directly from deep space ;)

V838 Monocerotis (V838 Mon) is a variable star in the constellation Monoceros about 20,000 light years from the Sun. The star experienced a major outburst in early 2002. Originally believed to be a typical nova eruption, it was then realized to be something completely different. The reason for the outburst is still uncertain, but several theories have been put forward, including an eruption related to stellar death processes and a merger of a binary star or planets.

On January 10, 2002, a previously unknown star was seen to brighten up in Monoceros, the Unicorn. Being a new variable star, it was designated V838 Monocerotis, the 838th variable star of Monoceros.

Linux Market Will Rise From $21 Billion To $49 Billion in 2011

Posted: 11 Apr 2008 02:27 PM CDT

I'm not surprised at all. Linux runs on tiny phone to large server systems. According to IDC researchers (prediction) - spending on the Linux ecosystem will rise from $21 billion in 2007 to more than $49 billion in 2011, driven by rising enterprise deployments of Linux server operating systems.

Linux server deployments are expanding from infrastructure-oriented applications to more commercially oriented database and enterprise resource-planning workloads "that historically have been the domain of Microsoft Windows and Unix," noted IDC analysts in a white paper commissioned by the nonprofit Linux Foundation.

"The early adoption of Linux was dominated by infrastructure-oriented workloads, often taking over those workloads from an aging Unix server or Windows NT 4.0 server that was being replaced," according to the report's authors, Al Gillen, Elaina Stergiades and Brett Waldman. These days, however, Linux is increasingly being "viewed as a solution for wider and more critical business deployments."

Gartner Report: MS-Windows Is Collapsing

Posted: 11 Apr 2008 02:17 PM CDT

Wow, the researchers warn that Windows is collapsing and Linux / OS X replacing Windows:

Calling the situation "untenable" and describing Windows as "collapsing," a pair of Gartner analysts this week said Microsoft must make radical changes to the operating system or risk becoming a has-been.

In a presentation at a Gartner-sponsored conference in Las Vegas, analysts Michael Silver and Neil MacDonald said Microsoft has not responded to the market, is overburdened by nearly two decades of legacy code and decisions and faces serious competition on a whole host of fronts that will make Windows moot unless the Redmond, Washington developer acts.

This article explains why Windows is broken:

Two Gartner analysts said the words that enterprises dread, and that will move alternate operating system proponents to tears of joy: "Windows as we know it needs to be replaced." Microsoft's operating system (OS) development times are too long and they deliver limited innovation; their OSs provide an inconsistent experience between platforms, with significant compatibility issues; and other vendors are out-innovating Microsoft . That gives enterprises unpredictable releases with limited value, management costs that are too high, and new releases that break too many apps and take too long to test and adopt. With end users bringing their own software solutions into the office...well, it's just a heck of a sad story for Microsoft.

Frank’s T-shirt Rental: By the Hour. By the Day

Posted: 11 Apr 2008 02:00 AM CDT

RENTAL_shirts_med2 sackwear funny t-shirt
When I see someone is wearing this tee on the street, I would straightly think that this guy must be from Frank the T-shirt Rental. And he wears this tee to promote the rental service.

If his name is Frank and he must have loads of tee shirt in his house. This is probably side effects of reading too much tee shirt blogs, too often visiting and browsing online tee shops (that promise there won’t be shortage of T-shirts in this world) or subscribing too many mailing lists from online shopping retailers.

This Frank dude was then got an idea with those T-shirts collection, renting sackwear funny rental tee shirt them to friends in hourly or daily basis in hope to be the next on Forbes’s Billionaire list.

But hey, what if he (or she) is not Frank? I bet s/he is Frank’s employee — and working on promoting Frank’s rental service means s/he a fair salary package aside from attractive bonuses such as free T-shirt to wear on the weekend from Frank’s collection.

But if you love Frank, you know you can always help him by having on your own this tee from SackWear (for $14.99 a piece). No rental agreement is required.
