M2S2 SATURDAY APRIL 19TH...ONLY $5 WITH A GOOD RECORDS RECEIPT
***********************************************
M2S2 Created to Encourage Cooperation Among Participants and Supporters of the Dallas Music Scene
Directors of Life in Deep Ellum (LIDE) and the Carter Albrecht Music Foundation (CAMF) are proud to announce plans to co-host the first annual Mokah Music Summit & Showcase (M2S2) on Saturday, April 19. M2S2 will be held at Life in Deep Ellum's year-old facility featuring Mokah Coffee Bar, the Mokah Gallery and Live@Mokah, the cultural center's 1,100-capacity concert venue.
"At Life in Deep Ellum, we aim to serve the community as a center for artistic development and relationship-building among those interested in Dallas art, music community and commerce," said Mike Biggs, who serves as Operations Director for LIDE and venue manager of Live@Mokah. "The idea for an annual music summit featuring unsigned talent, established indies and a panel of experts from various aspects of the Dallas music scene is something we've discussed since early last Summer.
"After meeting with Ken Albrecht last Fall and learning more about the mission of the foundation to honor his late son, Carter, it became clear to both of us that much could be accomplished together with an event like M2S2. Early and consistent positive feedback with influencers within the varied Dallas music scene has encouraged us to serve both them and others of influence who feel M2S2 can serve its stated purpose."
The summit portion of M2S2 will bring together Dallas music industry representatives from a cross section of categories to discuss the Dallas music scene and a variety of related issues. LIDE is creating a discussion blog at www.m2s2community.com to serve as a hub for continuing discussions on the Dallas music scene after the event. Other components of the summit include a variety of booths from local music-related organizations an art fundraiser with a music theme in the Mokah Gallery to raise money for Life in Deep Ellum and the Carter Albrecht Music Foundation. The fundraiser exhibit will debut on the 19th with a private event scheduled for Thursday, May 1.
The showcase portion of M2S2 features an unsigned artist/band competition where up to 10 bands will be selected to participate in the showcase before a panel of music industry judges. Prizes include 10 hours of studio time at Crystal Clear Studios; photo shoot by Hal Samples; and future gigs at Live@Mokah, Club Dada and Double Wide. Featured artists such as Jayson Bales, Chris Holt, Salim Nourallah, Bridges and Blinking Lights and Smile Smile will be playing in between the showcases; and acoustic acts will be performing all day in the Mokah lounge.
In addition, LIDE has established the Carter Albrecht Award to annually honor an individual or group making positive contributions to the growth and promotion of the Dallas music scene. The award symbolizes the passion and talent of the late Carter Albrecht in furthering Dallas as a destination city for music, and will be presented each year at M2S2.
Tickets for the entire day of music and conversation are $7 in advance (plus $1 processing fee) online at www.liveatmokah.com or www.m2s2community.com and $10 the day of the event.
Life in Deep Ellum (www.lifeindeepellum.com), founded by Executive Director Tony Fundaro in 2006, is a non-profit cultural center built for the artistic, social, economic and spiritual benefit of Deep Ellum and its residents, supporters and visitors. By virtue of Deep Ellum's historical influence on the city of Dallas and its culture, the center, by extension, serves the greater Metroplex and growth of culture in Dallas. The facility features Mokah Coffee Bar (open M-F from 7-10am, Sundays from 9:00-11:15am and for all events); Mokah Gallery (spacious art gallery featuring new exhibits every six weeks); the Live@Mokah concert space (1,100 capacity) with high quality sound and lighting systems; Deep Ellum Kids which hosts an after-school mentoring program for at-risk kids from nearby City Park Elementary; and The Gathering which meets on Sunday mornings as a spiritual community serving Deep Ellum.
The Carter Albrecht Music Foundation (www.carteralbrechtmusicfoundation.org) is dedicated to the growth and betterment of music in Dallas by offering assistance in education, developing skills and improving the quality of life of its musicians. Strategies include: provide support and funds to local musicians and groups to realize their musical potential, quality instruments to individuals and groups to improve the quality of their recordings and performances and scholarships to talented and deserving youth to help them achieve their dreams; coordinate with other programs to support the quality of life for musicians for personal health and financial guidance; utilize the contacts and goodwill of musicians who worked with and knew Carter to help all musicians meet their musical goals; and work with city and county agencies to foster a positive environment for musicians and the venues in which they perform.

A GOOD CAUSE AND GOOD MUSIC FROM GRANDADDY
***********************************************
Hi everybody,
this is Jason....No....I mean..this is a friend of Jason's ...uh...no..I
mean..
this is a monkey wearing a sombrero riding a border collie bringing Jason a
taco.
But Jason isnt hungry right now because he is recording an album, and being
hungry makes you gnarly, and it makes you nail your guitar solos, and piano
arpeggios, and taco bits in your teeth is bad for vocal overdubs.
Anyways.....here is a little something for the enjoyment of the folks
on Talkscape and whomever else might be interested.
Behold!!...........THE FAMBLY DEMOS
They are free of course,
BUT please, please, please donate money to the EMMETT O'LOUGHLIN Fund if you
end up enjoying this stuff (Make A Donation button on the website).....or
even if you dont. In the end we can all get a little sumthing and feel good
about giving a little sumthing as well
O.K then
ENJOY!

APRIL 1st NEW RELEASES
***********************************************
Anti-Flag-The Bright Lights Of America
New album expands Anti-Flag's sound with orchestration and a choir courtesy super-producer Tony Visconti (David Bowie, T. Rex, Morrissey). Package includes four postcards and a poster. Initial copies come with a bonus 7" 45 featuring the track "I'm So Sick Of You."
Annuals-Wet Zoo EP
Apples In Stereo-Electronic Projects For Musicians (B-Sides) CD/LP
Rarities, B-sides and outtakes from 1995-2008. Named after an electronics how-to manual by Craig Anderton, the album can be seen as the band's follow-up to their 1996 compilation Science Faire. LP on 180-gram vinyl.
Dave Barnes-Me+You+The World
Singer/songwriter Dave Barnes' music is an eclectic blend of soul-infused pop/rock built on catchy, addictive melodies. Available for audition in one of our listening stations.
The Beatles-John, Paul, Tom & Ringo 2xDVD
The ex-Beatles appearances on Tom Snyder's Tomorrow Show from 1975 to 1981.
The Black Keys-Attack & Release CD/LP
Ditching their low-tech DIY approach, Dan Auerbach and Patrick Carney hook up with eclectic producer Danger Mouse (Gnarls Barkley, The Grey Album) and record in a real studio, albeit one with awesome vintage equipment. Nice production touches and added instrumentation (piano, organ, moog synthesizer) expand the sonic palette, as do guest spots from members of Tom Waits' band -- Marc Ribot and Ralph Carney (Patrick's uncle). The audiophile vinyl is half-speed mastered and includes a CD copy of the entire album. Available for audition in one of our listening stations.
Blacklisted-Heavier Than Heaven Lonelier Than God
Introspective, haunting hardcore -- recorded and engineered by Kurt Ballou (Converge). Available for audition in one of our listening stations.
James Brown - The Singles Vol. 5 1967-1969 2xCD (Hip-O Select/Polydor)
This ongoing series of exhaustive collections of every James Brown single release, including b-sides, hits the ground zero years of the invention of funk. Leading off with "I Can't Stand Myself (When You Touch Me)" and hitting such highs as "I Got The Feelin'", "Licking Stick - Licking Stick",
"There Was A Time", "Say It Loud - I'm Black And I'm Proud", "Give It Up Or Turnit A Loose" and tons more you may have never heard. When it comes to getting down, James Brown is the ground!
Camphor-Drawn to Dust
A delicately crafted, gracefully orchestrated chamber pop opus, highlighted by frontman (and notable film score composer) Max Avery Lichtenstein's captivating voice and evocative lyrics. Available for audition in one of our listening stations.
Paddy Casey-Addicted To Company (Part 1)
Already a huge success in Ireland, his latest album, Addicted To Company serves as Paddy's US debut. Thirteen songs resplendent in soulful melodies and heartfelt lyricism, Paddy describes Addicted To Company sonically as a marriage of the dirty funk grooves of Sly & The Family Stone and the pastoral folk of Simon & Garfunkel. Bonus three-song CD with purchase.
Colour Revolt-Plunder, Beg, And Curse
Mississippi-based, bluesy indie rock -- heavy on guitars and gravelly, crooning vocals. Available for audition in one of our listening stations. "...The band explores Broken Social Scene-tinged dream pop, post-rock meltdowns, Isaac Brock's vocal assaults, and dirty, post-grunge dynamics. There's even a bass line that nods to Surfer Rosa." -- Stereogum
Ani DiFranco-Live At Babeville DVD
Awesome live performances recorded at the 135-year-old church-cum-state-of-the-art music venue that Ani calls home.
Fall Out Boy - * * * * Live In Phoenix CD+DVD
Their first-ever concert DVD. Two hours of material (including behind-the-scenes footage and eight music videos) in addition to a fifteen-track CD with a never-before-released studio version of "Beat It" featuring John Mayer. Packaged in CD-style jewel case.
Guilty Simpson-Ode To The Ghetto CD/2xLP
Guilty Simpson's full-length solo debut features an all-star cast of producers normally reserved for those signed to six-figure deals (Denaun Porter/Kon Artis of D-12, Oh No, Madlib, J Dilla). Guilty Simpson was a favorite MC of the late great J Dilla, who was also responsible for getting the acclaimed MC signed to Stones Throw. CD now, vinyl later this week.
In the Name of Love: Africa Celebrates U2
Features brand-new covers of classic U2 songs by Grammy Award-winning and up-and-coming African artists, including: Angelique Kidjo, Les Nubians, Sierra Leone's Refugee All Stars, Vieux Farka Touré (son of Ali), Vusi Mahlasela and the Soweto Gospel Choir. The album was inspired by Bono's direct philanthropic impact via the launch of the ONE campaign and (RED), and his poignant outspoken public commentary on the immediate financial needs facing Africa. Deluxe packaging includes detailed info on the home countries of the artists, and info on nonprofit organizations that are making a difference. Available for audition in one of our listening stations. File under U2 / Tribute Compilations.
Los Campesinos!-Hold On Now, Youngster...
Featuring the songs "Death To Los Campesinos!" and "You! Me! Dancing!" -- both of which were included in Rolling Stone's Top 100 Songs Of 2007. Available for audition in one of our listening stations. Initial quantities include a free button-pack with purchase.
Moby-Last Night
Moby is hitting the clubs again in this tribute to New York nightlife. Available for audition in one of our listening stations. CD now, vinyl later this month.
Morrissey - Greatest Hits 2xLP
Now on vinyl. Nice German pressing on heavyweight wax in a gatefold sleeve.
Van Morrison-Keep It Simple CD/LP
Gorgeous songs rich with emotion, depth and beauty. Van draws on the influences of Celtic, jazz, folk, blues, country, soul and gospel, as well as the mighty ukulele. The double album includes a side of live recordings not available on the CD!
Muse - HAARP CD+DVD (WB)_
High-Frequency Active Auroral Research Program? A multiple Brit Award winner for Best Live Act, Muse staged two massive sold-out performances at London's 90,000-seat Wembley Stadium last June. The best performances from those concerts, as well as bonus backstage footage, are presented on this CD+DVD set. These concerts once again demonstrated the raw power of one of the UK's most successful long-term bands and one of the most ambitious live acts in the world today. Packaged in CD-style jewel case.
Willie Nelson-One Hell of a Ride BOX SET
Willie's first career-spanning box set includes all of his best-known and most-loved recordings. 100 tracks on four CDs, spanning 1954-2008. Package includes a 100-page book. Initial copies come with a bonus DVD with four tracks recorded for Sessions At West 54th.
No Use For A Name-The Feel Good Record Of The Year
Their trademark sound steps up a notch with stronger songwriting and production courtesy Bill Stevenson and Jason Livermore (Descendents, Rise Against, Good Riddance, 7 Seconds). CD now, LP+CD soon.
Pebbles Vol. 6 LP
Pebbles Vol. 7 LP
Pebbles Vol. 8 LP
Pebbles Vol. 9 LP
Pebbles Vol. 10 LP
The Pebbles series has made available over 800 obscure, mostly American "Original Punk Rock" songs recorded in the mid-1960's, primarily known today as the garage rock and psychedelic rock genres that were previously known only to a handful of collectors. Now reissued are volumes 6-10, all on
different colors of vinyl!
R.E.M.-Accelerate CD/LP
First new studio album in four years is a welcome return to form, making up for a disconcertingly long stream of suckage from our once-beloved kudzu-rockers. Deluxe edition, packaged in a DVD-style case, adds a 64-page book, two bonus tracks and a Making Of film. The 180-gram vinyl is cut by RTI at 45RPM for maximum fidelity and includes a CD of the entire album.
Sly & The Family Stone-Dance To The Music LP
Sly & The Family Stone-A Whole New Thing LP
Sly & The Family Stone-Life LP
Sly & The Family Stone-Stand! LP
Sly & The Family Stone-Fresh LP
Glorious new reissues on 180-gram vinyl for the classic Sly catalog! Sundazed knows how to press vinyl and these are stellar, funk & soul fans. Most titles in now, There's A Riot Goin' On to follow soon.
The Sound Of Sound: Luaka Bop
Super cheap label sampler from the house that Byrne built. From Jim White and Nouvelle Vague to Os Mutantes and Tim Maia and beyond, sample the "un-label."
Sun Kil Moon-April
Haunting new release from Mark Kozelek spotlights guest vocals from Bonnie 'Prince' Billy, Ben Gibbard (Death Cab For Cutie), and Eric Pollard (Retribution Gospel Choir). Initial pressing includes a bonus CD with alternate versions. File under: Mark Kozelek. CD now, vinyl soon. "From 10-minute, three-guitar jams to heartbreaking acoustic ballads, April shines with the most evocative music of Kozelek's career." -- Billboard
The Sword-Gods Of The Earth
Latest from The Sword is heavier on the thrashy doomage and lighter on the hashy doobage. Includes the soon-to-be Top 40 hits "Fire Lances Of The Ancient Hyperzephyrians" and "Maiden, Mother & Crone." CD now, vinyl soon.
Unwed Sailor-Little Wars
The Wombats-The Wombats
"Fizzing with boyish humor and lung-emptying choruses, the Wombats' self-titled album is Britpop suited for frenzied pogoing. Think Franz Ferdinand's sharp corners mixed with Art Brut's meta-poetry." -- Spin
The Wood Brothers-Loaded CD/LP+CD
Fresh 12-song set of roots and blues. Features guest vocals from Amos Lee, Pieta Brown and Frazey Ford (The Be Good Tanyas). Produced by John Medeski. Vinyl contains a copy of the CD.

SAVE OUR CITY is written and performed by the Theatre Outreach Collective at Collin College. We are very excited to host our first play/musical at the new Good Records. When all hope seems lost two teenagers team together to challenge
the leaders of a town filled with oppressive ideals. Save Our City
follows Dylan and Ducky as they start a social and political revolution against Mayor Lenin, The Council, and a society filled with citizens who blindly follow the town's overbearing commandments.

Saturday May 31, 2008-Brothers And Sisters-3pm
http://www.myspace.com/brothersandsistersmusic
Brothers and Sisters is a band out of time. Led by real-life siblings Will and Lily Courtney, their music entirely lacks the calculated cool of contemporary indie rock and seems totally oblivious to the cynical machinations of the music business. In an indie world currently hell-bent on exhuming the still-warm corpse of post-punk, Brothers and Sisters reach back to a sunnier age, when idioms as disparate as polished West Coast pop, rock and roll choogle, AM radio balladry and classic country could still rub up against each other at the same hazy Topanga canyon party. Make sure to catch them the night before at Lola's in Ft. Worth.
