FEBRUARY 26th NEW RELEASES
***********************************************
Erykah Badu - New Amerykuh: Part One -- 4th World War
Latest from the bluesy MC/vocalist features the single "Honey" and production by 9th Wonder. Free poster with purchase.
Beach House-Devotion CD/LP
While critics have compared the duo's 2006 debut to the work of early '90s dream popsters like Mazzy Star, Galaxie 500 and Slowdive, on Devotion listeners will also hear the band's longtime admiration for '60s Motown and country folk. Initial quantities include a free poster with purchase.
Cowboy Junkies - Trinity Revisited CD+DVD
Almost twenty years on, Cowboy Junkies return to the scene of their breakthrough album to recreate the magic -- this time with Ryan Adams, Natalie Merchant and Vic Chesnutt along to share in the vocal duties. Specially priced two-disc set contains a CD and a DVD of the performance as recorded and filmed at the Church Of The Holy Trinity in Toronto in November 2006. The DVD also includes a documentary.
Earth - Bee Made Honey In The Lion's Skull
New album finds Earth growing into a harder, more rockin' American gospel and improvisational direction framed by truly psychedelic production and blazing guitar sounds. Features virtuoso guitarist Bill Frisell on three tracks.
Marianne Faithfull - No Regrets
Country/pop material recorded in 1976 prior to her breakthrough with 1978's harrowing Broken English.
China Forbes-'78 (Pink Martini)
Ghostland Observatory-Robotique Majestique
Only Texas could claim something as improbable as this -- sweaty, raw-boned, and direct from the future; committed to electronics, stuck on big beats, yet unmistakably powered by rock & roll. These guys share a love for Vince Young and Daft Punk, Los Tigres Del Norte and The Animals. They mostly prefer to let their music speak for itself -- and it's not subtle.
Glorytellers - Glorytellers CD/LP
Much-anticipated debut from Geoff Farina's (Karate/Secret Stars) new band.
Goldfrapp-Seventh Tree CD/CD+DVD
Fourth album from the genre-busting pop pioneers was recorded at their studio deep in the English countryside. The album shimmers and shines with the warmth of a hazy summer, an electric whirlpool of sound over which Alison Goldfrapp's glistening voice soars. The limited deluxe edition adds a lyric book, poster, art cards, a DVD with an exclusive documentary and the video for the single "A&E" -- all housed in a nice cloth-bound box.
Missy Higgins - On A Clear Night
Sophomore album introduces a newfound positive, uplifting attitude to her passionate singer-songwriter piano rock. On A Clear Night shines a bright light on Australia's most popular young artist. Also produced by Mitchell Froom. "Heartfelt and insanely melodic." -- Paste Magazine
Richard Julian - Sunday Morning In Saturday's Shoes
Recorded in L.A. under the guidance of legendary producer Mitchell Froom (Los Lobos/Crowded House/Elvis Costello/Suzanne Vega/Bonnie Raitt/Ron Sexsmith), the production is a bare-knuckled, stripped down affair which features live in-studio performances of Richard with his New York rhythm section. Froom's familiar keyboard wizardry makes cameo appearances throughout.
Tift Merritt - Another Country
After some time off in Paris with a piano, Tift returns with her most personal album yet. Features guests Charlie Sexton and Doug Pettibone.
The Old Crow Medicine Show - Eutaw
2001 studio recording previously only available through the band's website or at live gigs.
Porcupine Tree - We Lost The Skyline
On October 4, 2007, Porcupine Tree arrived for an in-store performance and signing session at Park Avenue CDs in Orlando, Florida with 200 fans also in attendance. Although it was originally planned that the full band would perform, lack of space dictated that only the two guitarists/singers -- Steven Wilson and John Wesley -- could play. This special, one-off performance includes many songs rarely (if ever) done by the full band. Eight tracks, 33+ minutes.
Punch Brothers - Punch
Youthful band comprising the most prodigious and sought-after musicians from the cutting edge of bluegrass and folk music. The project is masterminded by former Nickel Creek star Chris Thile.
Pete Rock - NY's Finest CD/LP
First album in four years finds the revolutionary rap producer rubbing elbows with Little Brother, Raekwon, Masta Killa, Redman and many more.
Rocket From The Crypt-R.I.P. (Live) CD+DVD
Insane document of their final live performance -- a madcap Halloween show.

Tuesday March 11, 2008-Cryptacize-7pm

http://www.asthmatickitty.com/musicians.php?artistID=17
Cryptacize began across the street from the C&H Sugar Factory in Crockett, CA, where Nedelle and Chris (Deerhoof) lived in a tilted apartment. Constant dizziness and the smell of burning sugar became a permanent part of their psyches, and is consequently their biggest influence. One morning while brushing their teeth, toothpaste running sideways out of their mouths, Nedelle pronounced the word 'Cryptacize' and the house appeared to incline in the opposite direction! Soon after this strange incident, they discovered something even stranger on youtube - a drummer named Michael Carreira. Having only seen his video, which was a closeup of his hands, they sought him out and convinced him to join their uncanny crusade. Catch them here before they play with Why? later that night in Denton.

Wednesday March 12, 2008-Human Bell-7pm
http://www.myspace.com/humanbell
http://www.thrilljockey.com
Nathan Bell (Arbouretum) and Dave Heumann (Lungfish) first started playing music togther sometime after the start of '99 and definitely before the end of '01. It was soon apparent that they'd hit upon a winning combination - they found an unusual synergy of writing styles that has enabled them, at times, to compose a whole album's worth of songs together in the course of a leisurely afternoon. The style of music that they found themselves playing defies categorization, but has been described by listeners as containing aspects of minimalism, pre-war american blues/folk, and middle eastern and african musics. They are stopping off their way to hook up with the Boredoms. This will be their only show in the area.

The LK, from Malmo, Sweden, will embark on their first full American tour to promote their upcoming US release - VS the Snow. The LK compose music using color and shapes as artistic guidelines (Lindefelt is a color-timbre synesthete), incorporating motion graphics into the live show, frequently experimenting with the dynamics of both abstract visual work and short films in the context of their music. This will be there only show in Dallas.
Tuesday March 18, 2008-Silje Nes-5pm
http://www.myspace.com/siljenes
http://fat-cat.co.uk/fatcat/artistInfo.php?artist=Silje+Nes
Silje is a songwriter who likes to experiment and find new ways to use sounds and instruments in her music. She has studied classical piano, played timpani in an Orchestra, played drums in a marching band and played in a traditional indie pop band, - but when she started recording her songs, she worked with her laptop and a lot of instruments she had no previous experience of playing. She plays around with instruments and sounds without conventions, and combined with her good songwriting, the result is stunningly beautiful. She will be opening for The Dodos the next night at Lola's in Ft. Worth.
